Les Misérables (2012)
I saw Les Miserables on it’s day of release and have waited a few days to write an entry in an attempt to provide a more mature, critical opinion on it. But I just can’t.

OH MY GOD IT WAS AMAZING I LOVED IT I CRIED I LAUGHED I SANG I LOVE HUGH JACKMAN I LOVE ANNE HATHAWAY ALL THE AWARDS TO THEM ALL THE EVERYTHING TO EVERYONE.

Before I continue to gush…

※ THE BAD:
Russell Crowe’s singing. The characterisation was down and he is always a commanding screen presence, but good lord, he can’t sing. There were times when it bordered on Pierce Brosnan in Mamma Mia levels of bad.

※ THE GOOD:
Anne Hathaway. The ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ sequence was quite possibly one of the most painful, uncomfortable yet immense moments of cinema I’ve ever witnessed. Absolutely stunning performance and a dead cert for the Oscar in my opinion.
Daniel Huttlestone as Gavroche broke my heart. I knew what was coming yet I still felt the force of it.

Just the entire cast, from Helena Bonham Carter to Amanda Seyfried to Hugh Jackman to Eddie Redmayne, every single one perfect in their role. Hathaway will win Best Supporting Actress and I wouldn’t bet against the film to walk away with Best Picture.
So, as you might have already guessed, Les Miserables gets a smashing 5 out of 5 from me. I’m off to build a barricade of dining room chairs in my garden. Come at me snow, come at me.
